Innovations like lithium-ion batteries and pumped hydro storage are proving critical in balancing the supply and demand of renewable energy.
Accurate solar and wind generation forecasting along with high renewable energy penetration in power grids throughout the world are crucial to the days-ahead power scheduling of energy systems. It is difficult to precisely forecast on-site power generation due to the intermittency and fluctuation characteristics of solar and wind energy.
To overcome these challenges, battery energy storage systems (BESS) have become important means to complement wind and solar power generation and enhance the stability of the power system.
Solar energy is another powerhouse among renewables. Solar panels work by using photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity. When the sun's rays hit these cells, they knock electrons loose from their atoms, allowing electricity to flow. An increasing number of countries have realized the potential of this abundant energy source.
