The Plant will have an aggregate capacity of 1,600 MWac up to 2000 MWac in Solar Photovoltaic and 1,000 MW in battery storage. The tender process will be able to select a suitable developer/developers or developer consortium/consortia to share ownership of project company/companies to be incorporated in accordance with Dubai and UAE laws.
The Project located within the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, about 50km south of the city of Dubai to be commissioned in phases starting August 2027. The power generated by the Project will be purchased by DEWA under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
This solar power and storage initiative is part of DEWA's broader push for advanced energy storage solutions. In addition to the solar PV project, DEWA is developing a 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, which is expected to begin trial operations in the first quarter of 2025.
This will make it one of the world's largest solar-plus-storage projects. The phase will be implemented under the independent power producer (IPP) model. DEWA has invited international developers or consortia to submit their expressions of interest by 21 March 2025.
This phase, which is expandable to 2,000MW, will use photovoltaic solar panels and a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 1,000MW for six hours, providing a total storage capacity of 6,000 megawatt-hours (MWh). This will make it one of the world's largest solar-plus-storage projects.
The MBR Solar Park remains one of DEWA's flagship solar initiatives, set to be the largest single-site solar park globally, with a target five GW production capacity by 2030.
