Jakarta, AugIndonesia will build a 100 Gigawatt (GW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS). The program plans to build 80 GW of solar power plants and 320 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to be managed by the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) in 80,000 villages, and 20 GW of Centralized solar power plants.
The factory plays a key role in fulfilling Indonesia's 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), which targets 17.1 GW of new solar power generation capacity within the next decade. As of now, Indonesia's total domestic solar panel production capacity stands at approximately 1.6 GWp annually.
As the first integrated solar cell and module manufacturing facility in the country, TMAI has an initial production capacity of up to 1 GW, making it the largest solar panel factory in Indonesia. The facility is also capable of producing some of the world's largest solar panels.
This strategic initiative marks a new chapter in Indonesia's renewable energy landscape. The upcoming solar panel plant is designed with an ambitious initial production capacity of 1.4 to 1.6 gigawatts (GW) per year. Far from being a routine expansion, this project represents a significant boost to domestic solar supply capacity.
As of now, Indonesia's total domestic solar panel production capacity stands at approximately 1.6 GWp annually. Once operational, the Pertamina NRE-LONGi plant is expected to double this figure, raising the national capacity to over 3 GWp per year.
Ferry Salman, Managing Director of Sinar Mas, expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian Government's support in steering the energy transition, especially in advancing solar energy development. “We appreciate the government's continued commitment to fostering renewable energy through solar utilization.
