Since 2020, a total capacity of 2261 MW of offshore wind energy is operational in the Belgian part of the North Sea. The federal government decided to increase the capacity of offshore wind energy in 2021. The objective is to install an additional production capacity of a minimum of 3.15 and a maximum of 3.5 GW in the Princess Elisabeth Zone (PEZ).

As of 2020, a total capacity of 2.261 MW of offshore wind power is operational in the Belgian part of the North Sea. In 2021 the Belgian government decided for a phased increase in offshore wind production, of up to 3.5 GW in the Princess Elisabeth Zone, which covers an area of 285 km².
Nine domain concessions have been allocated in this area and divided between eight wind farms. These wind farms have been operational and producing green electricity since end 2020. Today, Belgium has 2262 MW of offshore wind energy, and offshore wind represents about 10% of the total electricity consumption in Belgium.
