ASEAN Energy in 2025
The ASEAN Energy in 2025 Report provides key insights about ASEAN energy landscape and predictions in 2025.
The 7 th edition of ASEAN Energy Outlook reports the latest status of ASEAN's energy landscape. It also projects multiple realistic futures to gather insights for exploring a more challenging time ahead. Using historical data from 2005 to 2020, the report forecasts the ASEAN energy system until 2050.
Using historical data from 2005 to 2020, the report forecasts the ASEAN energy system until 2050. As with its predecessors, AEO7 complements the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016–2025 Phase II: 2021–2025, creating pathways toward achieving regional energy targets.
ntSource: AEO8 Renewable energy is crucial for achieving a sustainable future, with ASEAN targeting a 23% share of renewables in total primary energy supply (TPES) by 2025 under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperati n (APAEC) 2016-2025. As of 2022, the RE share stood at 15.6%, presenting a challenge to reach the targe
Six (6) Programme Areas were introduced namely the: 1) ASEAN Power Grid (APG); 2) Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP); 3) Energy Eficiency and Conservation (EE&C); 4) New and Renewable Energy (NRE); 5) Coal and Clean Coal Technologies (CCT); and 6) Regional Energy Outlook, Energy Policy and Environmental Analysis.
The ASEAN bloc has set the targets of 23% renewable energy in its Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) and 35% renewable energy in ASEAN installed power capacity by 2025. This means that energy storage is required. Additionally, without BESS acceptance on a larger level, the needed funds won't materialise, and fewer BESS will be built.
The ASEAN Member States will accelerate energy transition eforts by setting a more aggressive energy intensity reduction target of 32% by 2025 based on 2005 level.
